Racing Current - 2007 FIA Finals at Santa Pod

Andy was points leader in the FIA Championship going into this meeting so was much in demand for interviews during the meeting.

After so many rain affected meetings in 2007 it was a real pleasure to see the sun glinting off the cars throughout the weekend.

Unfortunately we had major drama during our third qualifying run blowing the supercharger burst panel, breaking the blower belt, blowing the fuel tank and damaging the body work. Here we see the fibreglass team of Dawn, Ryan and Paul working on the bodywork while the regular crew look after the mechanical damage.

Looking a bit like  a boxer with tape on his nose the Studebaker is ready for the fourth session of qualifying.

The repaired fuel tank required some rather unorthodox mounting arrangements .... whatever did we do before ratchet straps?

Final preparations before eliminations included matching flames on the original bodywork with flames on the gaffer tape. Good though the work was nobody was quite fooled.

Second round of eliminations and the video cameras capture a pre-race discussion in the staging lanes between Andy and his opponent Norbert Kuno.

The whole start line crew of Stefani, Tom, Jerry, Bowser and Luke watch as Andy prepares to win the second round.

Stefani packs the parachutes while the team consider how well the previous run went.


Unfortunately there was evidence of some damage to the engine so the decision was made to replace both cylinder heads with built up spares already in the trailer. This is not a simple process as it involves removal of the supercharger. Once again the video camera is on hand to record Andy and Bowser's quick lift. Who needs the gym when you're on a Pro Mod team?


Andy and Jerry replace the supercharger while Bowser sets the torque wrench and Luke finishes work on the clutch.

The thrash was to no avail as Andy found that he had no clutch action after the burn out due to a broken linkage.

Thus our quest for the FIA Championship ended with frustration and second place.
